Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > iphone 3g jailbroken then updated now stuck at activation

Hi,
Gave my dad my old 3g, he thought he had it unlocked but it would seem it was actually jailbroken, then i upgraded it to the latest ios, but I cant remember which one that was sometime last year, now it turns on and goes through the configuration but fails at "activating your iphone"
is there anything i can do to recover the phone?
