Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > Unlock?

I've been looking for a resource like this for a while now. I have an iphone 3GS with 4.1.1 installed, but I want to upgrade my OS to the latest stable version. I don't need to re-jailbreak do I? Don't I just need to re-unlock it? I bought it used off of eBay already unlocked and jailbroken, but if I want a software update, I have to reunlock and jailbreak right?
