when i go to use absinthe with my ipod touch 4, it asks me to turn off the backup password on itunes then reload the program, how do i turn off the passcode so i can use it? my ipod doesnt have a passcode lock either by the way.

To remove iTunes backup file password, I searched online for solutions. Finally, when I Google search "iPhone backup password not working", I got a tool called "Tenorshare iPhone Backup Password Unlocker". It helped me remove the unknown backup password quickly!

I had this same problem and could not figure it out for the longest time. Nobodies help worked.

Go on your actual device (iPhone/ipad) and go to general settings and look for the profiles tab and delete all profiles on your actual device.

It worked for me after this and I hope I help at least one other person.

- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
- Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
- Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.
file termination is: .plist

Okay, I have a tough one for you: I only have a linux pc and want to jailbreak my ipod touch 3g. Absinthe-linux-2.0.4 can do this, but it says that there is a password-protected backup. However, I do not have access to any backup file (I remember that I backed it up long time ago to some windows pc which does not exist any more), nor do I have access to itunes. Is there a way to settle this just with your ipod and linux?

Well, If you haven't set up any password before, I think the iTunes backup password maybe the default one. Try 000, 111, something like that. Or, if you forget the password you have set previously, then a video I watched on youtobe titled how to recover iTunes backup password maybe helpful for you. With your device plugged in, go into Itunes and under backups where it says "Automatically backup", make sure you have "This computer" checked and don't check the "Encrypt local backup". If it is already checked then uncheck it and if you know the password you may have used for the backup then type that in.

NOTE: When I did a backup to do a jailbreak I checked the "Encrypt local backup" and when I was doing Absinthe it said that the Ipad had a passcode so I took it off then it said that it has a backup passcode. I didn't know what they meant by that so I looked it up and I even installed a program onto my pc to find the passcode. So while it was running I was thinking about "BACKUP passcode" then I remembered I did a "BACKUP passcode". Then the program was taking a long time so I stopped it and I went to itunes and I unchecked the "Encrypt local backup" and typed the passcode in and it worked.

Now I don't know if you had done a passcode and it was already on there but if so then I don't have a clue what to tell you.

Without the backup passcode the only option is to restore the phone and set it up as New. You get unlimited guesses for the passcode, so you might try a bunch of passcodes that you have used in the past. And to speed up the process just uncheck "encrypt backup" in iTunes and you will be prompted immediately for the passcode.

Other way is try iSeePassword iTunes Backup Password Recovery tool, it
makes an iPhone backup password cracker that will work if you are in the habit of using strong passwords. It is targeted for law enforcement use, and priced accordingly.
