Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > Can I Upgrade my iPhone 3G on iOS 3.1.2 FW 05.11.07 to iOS 4.2.1 and then jailbreak & unlock it?

What jailbreaking/unlocking tools are best for Windows? iPhone is currently jailbroken and unlocked. Is it a good idea to upgrade to 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G? I could live with the current status but the wifi is not working on the iPhone 3G to be able to use Cydia effectively.

The 3G is not compatible with ios 5. You don't need to upgrade.

From jailbreakme.com

My iOS device is...
Running iOS 5.0.1.
Yes, for non-iPhone 4S and non-iPad 2 devices: redsn0w+corona.
For iPhone 4S and iPad 2, the wait continues. Check back soon!
Running iOS 5.0, 4.2.9-10, or 4.3.4-5.
A tethered jailbreak is available, but why not upgrade?
Running iOS 4.2.6 through 4.2.8, or iOS 4.3 through 4.3.3.
Open JailbreakMe on your device itself.
On iOS 4.1 through 4.2.1.
Use redsn0w and the IPSW for your firmware.
