Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > The reason I need to jailbreak my iphone

I have an iPhone 3g 4.2.1 It was an AT&T phone. I am using Straight Talk. If I understand this right, I cannot access data on the cell towers because my phone is not "jailbroken". Straight talk told me I need to change the VPN to APN and I could only do that by jailbreaking. This is what Apple also told me. After I jailbreak, will I be able to go in and the VPN will be replaced with APN so that I can enter the right information to be able to connect with the cell towers?

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: I've never done it before, so I can't vouch for actually following these steps to get it done.

It sounds like after you jailbreak, a cydia app called EditAPN will take care of it, or allegedly unlockit.co.nz accessed through safari on your iphone. I'ts worth a shot anyway; you have nothing to lose by jailbreaking and can always remove it later.

You're not the first person to have this issue with Straight Talk. Maybe their customer service people can help:
