Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > Do I need to Internet connection to restore via iTunes Back up after Jailbreaking?

Hi guys! I hope you can help me out.

I have an IP4s running iOS5.1.1. I haven't jailbroke it since I got it last April 2012. I finding it dull now and decided to jailbreak it after this.

I have read around the web that that the more data you have on your iDevice the longer JB process would take. I was planning to do a back up via iTunes first. Erase all content via my Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings thru my iPhone. Jailbreak via Absinthe. Then once Jailbroken restore via my iTunes Back up. My problem is that from where I am right now I don't have a stable and it's a very slow internet connection and I don't want iTunes to connect to its server to verify since I'm still on iOS5.1.1 and I don't want to update to iOS6. Is this possible?

Hope you can help me out... I'm completely naive about jailbreaking. Thanks! KCCO!

Short answer: yes, that'll work.

Longer answer: iTunes will attempt to find out if your iOS version is the newest one available, but that shouldn't prevent the backup/restore. You've got a good process in mind: backup to iTunes, erase and reset from the phone itself, jailbreak via absinthe, then restore in iTunes. Should work nicely and there's no reason an Internet connection should be required.

Something else I will mention: yes, the process of jailbreaking takes longer when there is content on the phone, but your method is still far more complicated. Backing up, resetting, and restoring, will take as much time as just jailbreaking to begin with. You may as well just jailbreak the phone as is. Just let it run and go make a sandwich.

Thanks a lot Terry! I guess you're also right with option number 2! Erasing and restoring will take up time too... so what the heck I'll just JB it directly! I'll give it a go later... lets keep our fingers crossed and hope all goes well! I'll keep you posted! Cheers!
