Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > Tiny Umbrella won't list my firmware after I save SHSH

I am currently on jailbroken firmware 4.3.2 on my Ipod touch 4G and need to restore it, so that its not jailbroken anymore since I am taking it to the Apple store for repair.

I followed the steps on "How to restore to same firmware" video and it says that the Tiny Umbrella will list my firmware version after I save SHSH(whatever that is). But it doesn't list my firmware! In fact it lists 4.3.3! What do I do now? Is it even important to use Tiny Umbrella at all? What is it doing?

September 19, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Hi there,

I think you should download 4.3.3 and use tiny umbrella to restore to that firmware. The steps to restore should be in that video.

You can find 4.3.3 for iPod Touch 4G here

Let me know if this helps!

September 19, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

So what you're saying is, though I am on 4.3.2, I should do exactly as the video suggests, select 4.3.3 in Tiny Umbrella, and restore it to 4.3.3?

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

In the video I just used that as a example, but yes I think in your case that is what you should do.

Let me know!

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

What is Tiny Umbrella doing anyways? Will it help me restore my iPod back to the jailbroken version in the future?

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Yes. Basically it tricks iTunes into thinking that the firmware you are trying to restore to is "Restorable" and signed by apple.

It is a lot more advanced than that, but it gets pretty complicated.

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

I think I get it. But lets say, Apple just give me a new iPod for my old one and it has 4.3.5. Then will I be able to switch back to 4.3.3, the way it was(jailbroken)?

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Unfortunately not. The "SHSH" is specific to your iPod Touch.

4.3.5 is jailbreakable, but it is a tethered jailbreak.

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

"tethered jailbreak".. no idea what that even means :D

Anyhoo.. I'll give the 4.3.3 restore a try. I am looking to get my iPod exchanged all together and obviously do not want to let them know I jailbroke it at some point. The battery life on mine has really really taken a dip. 30 mins on angry birds and it hits around 50-60%. And i bought it like 11 months ago. Do I have a case here?

P.S. If this restore and exchange thing goes through, expect a sincere donation. Then you can get a better font than Comic Sans MS (at the top) XD

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Thank you good sir.. btw, all this time I am thinking you are in some way owner of this website. Either way, great job and lets see how this goes!

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

A tethered jailbreak means that you will have to plug it into your computer every time you reboot your device.

I think you have a case! The battery should last way longer than that.

And ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Comic sans????! No way!!!

Any support would be extremely great though :)

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

I can swear I saw Comic Sans at the top a few mins back.. Damnit.

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Every time I reboot the device.. hmm.. meaning every time I turn it on.. Doesn't sound so bad, considering I rarely turn it off :D

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Yeah, it really is not that bad.

and NO WAY. Comic sans will never be on this website. (Unless it's April fools day) :P

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

So I'll come back to this website for the tethered jailbreak info I get the 4.3.5 iPod. Lets hope I do get it. Time to try the 4.3.3 restore. Wish me luck.

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

GOOD LUCK!!!!

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

When do I stop the TSS Server?! :D I am getting that sign on my iPod of that restore which tells you to connect to iTunes to get started, like when i got it brand new.

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

after* the* restore..

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

UPDATE: Okay.. I have reasons to believe it has been done! I don't see Cydia or anything anymore and it looks like its brand new.. Except the shitty battery ofcourse. Time to take it to the Apple Store!

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Ok great!

Let us know!

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

Trying to reinstall a few games I actually purchased using my credit card by going in the "Purchased" section in "Updates" in the app store. I see nothing.. Are my genuine purchases gone for good or something? Because I know I have none on my computer. I was hoping I could re-download them since Apple now miraculously remembers which apps you purchased and all.

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Don't worry, they are not gone.

Make sure you log in first in the "settings" app.

Let me know if that helps!

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

I am logged in! Even tried restarting the device! What the hell Apple?!

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

As I go into the "Purchased" section.. It just keeps loading for an eternity!

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Try doing this in iTunes: http://cloud.lukete.ch/AHLt

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

its making me download the new iTunes.. sigh.. brb

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Alright, let me know

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

oh wait.. It finally showed up in my iPod! F U new iTunes!

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

haha it was slow for me also. It might be easier in iTunes though

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

So I went to the Apple store and I was SURE I had a case. Again tested the thing in the morning.. 1.5 hours of angry birds and 1 hour of youtube gave me the 20% battery notification. (I am sure it was WAY better than this.. I have wasted 9 hours straight on this thing at my work several times :D)

So.. they updated my iPod to 4.3.5 and gave me "Thank you, come again". So now I have to see if the update which was supposed to fix some security issue, fixes my battery life. "Maybe the apps I run are compatible with 4.3.5 but not 4.3.3".. Fuck Apple.. Seriously

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

dang that sucks!

If you used tinyumbrella, you can restore back to 4.3.3 if you would like.

Also! Somtimes people are nicer than others at the apple store. Maybe you could try going at a different time (try to get someone else) OR visit another apple store. I have gone with this tactic before and gotten a completely different result. (Pay 200 for new screen or get one for free :P)

Might be worth a try!

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

will try one more time.. Today I did not really let my frustration out on the guy as I did on the internet forum (story of my life). But I will lay out my point next time. He did tell me to try again after "battery calibration".. that would be charging completely after full drainage.. something I already do almost everyday.

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Another key to genius bar success is to be as nice as possible. Also, bring every apple product you own to the apple bar. They are more likely to help you if you bring a lot of apple stuff. And at the very end, if they don't give it to you, ask for a manager in the store! :)

September 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

this is my ONLY apple product :D

September 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

SUCCESS! GOT IT REPLACED! THANKS LUKE!

I headed straight for the Donate button but halted right there when I read paypal! My dad had a horror story with them.. Can't trust those bastards. Any other way? (P.S.: being unemployed will limit my donation to being minuscule but whatever helps :D)

September 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

My dad tried sending me money from Pakistan and got it info stolen somehow in-case you were wondering. But then I don't remember if it was paypal.. Can't be too careful with this shit though.

September 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Glad you got it replaced!!

Unfortunately Paypal is the only way to donate :(

I am so happy that we were able to help you out! :)

September 28, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

damn man.. paypal scares me shitless.. i have read so much about them. I'll figure something out or finally give in.

Could you direct me to the steps to get it back to jailbroken 4.3.3? I followed the restore steps as mentioned here and used tinyumbrella etc. But mind you, this is a different ipod.

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

When you got the iPod.. was it on 4.3.5? Also when you opened up tinyumbrella and tried to save your shsh's, did it save the 4.3.3 shsh's?

Let me know!

September 29, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

i saved the 4.3.3 shsh I believe when un-jailbreaking my previous ipod yes.

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Shsh's are device specific, try opening tiny umbrella and try saving them.

September 29, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

i don't get it.. i am on 4.3.5 right now.. i saved 4.3.3 from my previous device.. so i am screwed?

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

Shsh's are device specific so you can't use your old shsh's with your new device. :(

Please open up redsn0w, click on your device on the sidebar, and click "save shsh" and tell me if it saves any shsh's.

September 29, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

opened up Redsnow and don't even see "save shsh".. it gives me a browse button..

I realize that 4.3.5 has tethered jailbreak.. but do we have any idea when untethered will be out? any estimate?

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

iOS5 is coming out soon and they will most likely release a untethered jailbreak for that. (Maybe a few weeks)

No one really knows though.

And use tinyumbrella to check your shsh's, not redsn0w. Download tinyumbrella here

First, navigate to the advanced tab and uncheck "set hosts to cydia on exit" then, click on your device on the sidebar, and click "save shsh" then tell me the shsh that were saved by going back the the general tab.

September 29, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

I am now thinking you wrote redsnow by mistake.. maybe you meant tinyumbrella.. i opened it, tried saving SHSH for the new device.. it doesn't save anything.. And something tells me thats not good.

I'll wait for the 4.3.5 jailbreak I suppose.. I am guessing tethered jailbreak will really piss me off whenever I run out of battery. :)

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

ah yes, ios5! lets wait for that.. for now I have apps I actually purchased from the apple store before I knew about jailbreaking.

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

haha I see what you are saying :P

We will be covering iOS5 in full so check back! Or you can subscribe here.

September 29, 2011 | Registered CommenterLuke Abell

ermmm.. is this website claiming that the jailbreak is untethered? http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=16349

September 29, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJB

wow I need to read things.. nevermind :D
