You need to use redsn0w to "boot tethered"

Open redsn0w and click "extras" then "just boot". Then just follow the instructions and it will reboot fine.

i did follow the instructions exactly but every time i download cydia then try to install something the requires a reboot device, my iphone 4 gets stuck on the apple logo. Please help me fix my phone so i can have cydia. And what does tethered and untethered mean because i think that might be the problem

You will need to follow the instructions every time you need to reboot. I explained this in the video.

ok but why does it always freeze on the apple logo because i followed your instructions 5 times and every time i download something from cydia and it wants to reboot the device. it always freezes on the apple logo is it becuase of ios 5???

Because it is a tethered jailbreak
