Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > I have several iPod 2nd Gen that I want to upgrade to iOS 5.1

I want these iPods to be able to do messaging while connected to WiFi. I have successfully jailbroken one iPod, but do not seem to be able to figure out how to upgrade to 5.01 and to get the messaging program.

These iPods are for my grandchildren to be able to message me, but if it wont work that is fine and I will stop now. I might have overlooked the place that explains it. :)

I really am only looking for SMS type messaging. If I cannot upgrade to iOS5 (which was the whole point of JB in the first place) can someone recommend a solution?

Why do you need to jailbreak? You can upgrade to iOS5 to get the iMessage functionality. What is your reason for wanting to jailbreak?

These iPods are 2nd Generation. From everything I have been able to read, they are not able to be upgraded to 5.01 (and I was unable to upgrade them using iTunes). Is there some other way to upgrade the iOS?
