Free iPad iPhone iPod Touch Jailbreak Support > How do I get passed the activation screen on iPhone 3g?

I just want to use my old iPhone like an iTouch.

What activation screen exactly? I have an old 3gs that I deactivated, and it still works just fine, I just get "no signal" for the cell portion now.

google also mentioned this:

I'd recommend leaving the deactivated sim in the phone. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a sim card installed. The sim card need not be activated, but it must bre valid & present.

You should be able to just follow the steps on the activation screen. From what I recall it doesn't ask you questions about your cell provider, just other settings like wifi & icloud. If you aren't able to: what step of the activation app is leaving you stuck?

Another idea, if you do run into a snag with the activation app: restore from an old itunes backup instead of letting itunes treat it like a new phone. You can always delete all the stuff you don't want after you're able to use the phone normally.

The actual activation part. It says the activation server is temporally down.
I also forgot to mention that I had jail broken it the first time to "hacktivate/activate" and then some idiot took my iPhone and tried to update it to the iTunes ios 6. Redsn0w doesn't recognize my device in DFU mode when I tried to jailbreak it again.

Thank you for helping and responding fast though!

ah. you never mentioned ios 6; that makes more sense then. redsn0w can revert from any 5.x version to any other 5.x version, but downgrading from 6.x back to 5.x - not so much. However: it's supposed to be able to jailbreak any A4 device running iOS 6, including the 3gs. If it were me, I'd do a complete firmware upgrade and restore in itunes (to wipe any previous jailbreaks and settings) and then try a fresh jailbreak on redsn0w 0.9.15b1.

You've moved beyond my realm of expertise though, honestly. Luke may have an answer, but I guess he doesn't read these posts anymore. You might try the "contact" form on this site, though - he might check that.
